Robbie Tilton (check out his website - awesome design) created this cool video that looks like it's straight out of Minority Report or Iron Man using three.js and Leap Motion.
]]>Using threejs I created a 3D scene and rendered four unique camera angles to reflect off of a plexi glass prism. It creates the illusion of a 3Dimensional volumetric display in it's most crude state. I also attached my Leap Motion to start controlling the globe with a simple point of the finger.
I came across this web series after I had a seen the 850 Meters trailer by Joeri Christiaen of THURISTAR had worked on a previous web series called Plankton Invasion.
The series takes the serious subject of Climate Change through a different angle : Three plankton specimen - two soldiers and a scientist - are sent ashore to start operation “Global warming”. There are billions of them and they need more space, meaning more water. They are fighting for their species’ supremacy, by all means possible – minuscule means that is – to fuel Global Warming, drown all land… and rule the world.
There doesn't seem to be an order to the series, and the other's aren't quite as polished as this one, but there's a couple other good episodes called 15 Degrees and John Quichotte.
]]>It seems like a conversation you have as a kid at the lunch table "What if Santa, the Easter Bunny, The Sandman, Jack Frost and the Tooth Fairy were super heroes?! And they had to fight the Boogieman?!", only it looks like this conversation happened among adults and pitched it for a movie. They wrapped up some big names for the parts; Chris Pine, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law and Dakota Goyo. It's a pretty neat twist on childhood stories, and the trailer for the animated movie looks pretty awesome.

]]>Tilt represents a new way of visualizing a web page. I can it being a great tool for new developers to understand the DOM and the box model in particular. This tool creates a 3D representation of the document, with the purpose of displaying, understanding and easily analyzing the DOM. It is a firefox extension using a WebGL implementation to provide a rich user-experience, fun interaction and useful information, while taking full advantage of 3D hardware acceleration.
The implementation consists of a Firefox extension containing a 3D representation of a web page, as both a fun visualization tool and a developer-friendly environment for debugging the document's structure, contents and nesting of the DOM tree. Various information besides the actual contents will be displayed on request, regarding each node's type, class, id, and other attributes if available.

]]>Sony's 3D ambitions don't end with 3D TVs and the PS3. This cylindrical concept can be viewed from all angles, and will be at Tokyo's Digital Contents Expo this Thursday. The prototype is about 10.6-inches tall. It only supports a 24-bit, 96 by 128-pixel stereoscopic color image right now, but you don't need glasses to see the 3D effect. I just hope this can bring us one step closer to hologram-like TVs.
