Do you think they could get rid of the glasses frames and replace it with an earpiece like bluetooth headsets have?Seems like a waste to wear glasses frames if the user doesn't need prescription lenses. I know they wouldn't be a sturdy without the frame, but if the earpiece rests up agains the side of the head from ear to eyebrow it might be alright. Then the device could be a lot smaller and could be something you can take off and put in your pocket when you don't need it.

So for 2gb of data (which I think you would need to be honest) it would be a $60 plan on T-Mobile + $20 for iphone. That's $80/month, versus $100/month on Verizon ($40 line fee + $60 for the plan). And this way there's no contract. You could bump your $20/month for the iphone up to $40/month and have it paid off in a year. If you did this you could have the latest and greatest phone every year instead of every 2 years on another network, I gotta say, that's tempting.

Replied to: Is it time to buy a Wii U now? http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12323/replied-to-is-it-time-to-buy-a-wii-u-now

Tried to pick the most important game out of that list, but all the Mario and Zelda game announcements are a big deal here. Personally, Mario Kart is probably my favorite. I'm interested to see what the new Zelda is like in HD.Will i shell out the cash to buy the console? Personally, I'm still on the border, but this might be what was needed to convince others. Would I jump ship from xbox for Wii U? No, I'm a big FPS player and all my friends are on xbox.Would I get it as an additional console? I'm considering it. I've played the Wii U with a group of friends and it's a surprising amount of fun; as a "party console" is where the Wii U shines (for adults). I think if the console falls to that $199 sweet stop that the original Wii hit, they'd get a lot of people buying it as an additional console.

I was kind of surprised there wasn't more phones announced, the only one I really heard about was the Sony Xperia Z (http://gdgt.com/sony/xperia/z/) . I like the design, but I think I liked the design of the Xperia S better (http://gdgt.com/sony/xperia/s/). The only real difference I read between the Z and the ZL is that the Z will be dust and water resistant (if so, why bother putting out 2 models?). Anyway, I'm interested if Sony finally has a phone to get a gdgt score in the 80's so I clicked 'request score' on its page above to be notified when it's scored.

For kids, Best Buy's got the all their Nintendo DS' on for $40 off (3DS for $129, and XL for $159), so I'm betting that will be a popular gift this year. For adults, as posted on the Best Buy page, I'm betting the Kindle Paperwhite will be hot seller this year. Not really a xmas present, but I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5 so I'll be taking my old Droid X home for whichever family member wants it.Don't think it's as popular here in the US, but back in Canada I know a lot of people will be shopping online/in-stores on Boxing Day (Dec 26th) for cheap deals on electronics.

I find it interesting that you mentioned a couple times about a good end-user experience for Linux, however it sounds like you didn't try installing the one distro that probably focuses on it the most, Ubuntu. I assume you were a part of the community who was not a fan of Unity, but I would still be interested to see if Ubuntu works better than other other distros on your boxes.I'll be honest, as far as laptops go, I've only really installed Linux on Dell laptops. Since there are so many out there, the community seems to have better support for drivers on Dell laptops.

Based on look alone, I like the Nokia handset the best, the HTC is a very similar look though, it's kind of hard to pick, but the bigger screen/battery tips me towards the Nokia.Personal opinion but really don't like the look of the ATIV S; it looks like they were headed in a neat direction with the brushed metal look but the camera on the back and something about the front (maybe it's how the roundness of the corners) just make it look cheap to me.Ps. I like how you included a link to the comparison, saved me the time!

Pre-ordered the iPhone 5 through Verizon's website, don't think there's as many people ordering though their phone upgrade system so I didn't have any issues. Delivery date says Sept 21'st - just 1 week is pretty impressive.Coming from an Android phone, my main complaints were screen size and no LTE, they added both, and now a days it seems like almost all my favorite apps are on both platforms, so I figured it was time to give iOS a try.

Replied to: Motorola's new focus http://mitchmckenna.com/post/11663/replied-to-motorolas-new-focus

This could just be my personal experience, but my Droid X is one of sturdiest designed phone I've ever used. So much so that after 2 and 1/2 years, both @casschin of the gdgt team and I are both still using it after our 2 year contracts ended. Albeit, the headset port is kind of messed up now, so maybe you're right that they have issues with ports, but what do you expect after 2 years of headphone jacking. And don't get me wrong, I'll be upgrading to Google's latest and greatest when the next Nexus comes out, but the ability to take 2 years worth of drops, not a scratch on the glass, and a stable software build, is what has allowed me to wait it out till Google's next big unveil. So, maybe Motorola's design has already changed with focus on durability since your experience with the original RAZR?

Re: Screen Size Growth vs. Dexterity IssuesOne thing Google is trying out to combat this is Quick Gestures in the Browser. I've gotten really used to using them and love it for quickly navigating back/forward, getting to url bar, sharing, and getting to menu options without having to go to the top or bottom of the phone. It might not make sense for this type of thing in other apps, but for now, in the browser, it's awesome, give it a try:http://www.droid-life.com/2012/02/07/tip-browser-quick-controls-expanded-in-android-4-0-4/

I'm in the same boat, not impressed from the design.Compared to the Galaxy Nexus; it's better in almost all specs (thinner/shorter while having a bigger screen, better battery life, better cameras, better cpu) however I don't think I could buy it over the Nexus' simply because the design of the Nexus is so much better.

Although most here say yes , I think they are part of the ~5% who do. I think the majority of people get their news from either twitter/facebook/tumblr, or actually checking their favorite sites daily.I no longer subscribe to any of the tech news sites like Techcrunch, these websites push out too many updates. Instead, I use it to keep track of those websites which only publish content sparingly, say once a day or once a week; those websites which publish awesome content, but not often enough that it would be worth going to their website every day.At first I did this by using Feedly's "favorites" feature but eventually I just moved all those must-read sources into a folder called favorites which I always read through first, the rest I only read if I have extra time.
