KDirStat | WinDirStat Predecessor for Linux http://mitchmckenna.com/items/view/7406/kdirstat-windirstat-predecessor-for-linux

"KDirStat is a graphical disk usage utility, very much like the Unix "du" command. In addition to that, it comes with some cleanup facilities to reclaim disk space."

I was actually looking for a Linux alternative for WinDirStat when to my surprise I found out that WinDirStat was actually based on this Linux app!

Déjà Dup | Simple Linux Backup Done Right http://mitchmckenna.com/items/view/7397/deja-dup-simple-linux-backup-done-right

"Déjà Dup is a simple backup tool. It hides the complexity of doing backups the 'right way' (encrypted, incremental, off-site) and uses duplicity as the backend."

I had tried a couple including Back In Time, SBackup, etc, but none did remote backup right. This one works and it's simple.

Record Screencasts On Linux With recordMyDesktop http://mitchmckenna.com/items/view/7130/record-screencasts-on-linux-with-recordmydesktop

"RecordMyDesktop solves the screencasting problem Linux users have faced for a long time. RecordMyDesktop creates high quality recordings of your screen with or without sound. While it is a terminal application, when paired with gtk-recordMyDesktop, a graphical frontend for recordMyDesktop, recordMyDesktop becomes a robust tool for easily creating screencasts. RecordMyDesktop can be tweaked to your heart's content by changing the sound and video quality, frames captured per second, mouse cursor style, compression, and whether to record the current window or the entire desktop."

Misa Digital Guitar Demo http://mitchmckenna.com/items/view/6033/misa-digital-guitar-demo

This has got to be one of the coolest guitars around if you're not a rock star - the Misa Digital Guitar which boasts its very own touchpad. Lovingly constructed by Sydney-based designer Michael, the Misa Digital Guitar relies on your right hand to control the sound that you want instead of plucking strings. Here's what he says about it in brief.

KTorrent | Linux's uTorrent http://mitchmckenna.com/items/view/5883/ktorrent-linuxs-utorrent

KTorrent has been always the most popular client on linux (atleast on KDE), it comes closest to the features & functionality Windows users enjoy with uTorrent. Although uTorrent can be run on wine, it can be quirky, sometimes not starting up and the RSS downloader won't auto-download. The next version of Deluge (1.2) might be better performance on GNOME once the 64 bit version finally comes out. Although it's annoying that the RSS downloader (FlexRSS) has to be downloaded separately and installed.
