Tragic. Today we lost one of the most influential lead vocalists, of one of the biggest rock bands, of our generation; Chester Bennington. Just last month Patrick, myself and several of my friends attended what would turn out to be our first and last Linkin Park concert. As noted through various posts on this site, Linkin Park was Pat and I’s favorite band growing up, and there’s a mix of gratefulness that we finally got to see our favorite band perform live, and sadness that we won’t get to do it again. My fiancé had also bought me tickets to give to me on my birthday to see them in Seattle in October. Linkin Park’s Youtube account had released a brand new music video the same morning before the news of Chester’s passing broke, made up of tour footage, it’s now serving as a tribute to Chester, trending at #1 on Youtube.

Tim Chaisson’s new music video features all PEI scenery (where Pat and I grew up!) and Tim’s own 1978 camper van. Tim applies his folk-music background to create a country sounding track, which is getting Tim (typically known for his folk/rock sound) some play time on country radio stations. The song’s off the album “Lost In Light” released February 17 earlier this year. I’ll admit I don’t feel like I get to post much Rock on BTC (Pat does a better job covering that genre in my mind), though I feel like that’s partially because the rock industry moves so much slower than the rap and dance scene. That being said, every once in a while I’ll come across a rock track like this that strikes a cord with me. Modestep‘s new music video for their new single Machines is one of those times. The reason for this might have to be do with Modestep’s unique genre-bridging sound, their known as a dubstep and electronic rock band. Machines is their first single for their upcoming new album London Road, due out today! What’s really cool is they’ve had their whole London Road album available for streaming on SoundCloud for the last week, leading up to the launch, go give it a listen. You might recongize Modestep from their 2011 dubstep singles Sunlight and Feel Good, and their 2013 single Another Day (Remix).Download: iTunes, Amazon

This is not the Mumford & Sons you’ve heard before. In their new single Believe they depart from their signature folk rock sounds, trading in their acoustic instruments for electric. Not only that, but the song’s written by band members Dwane, Lovett and Marshall instead of the band’s usual songwriter; Mumford. The song serves as the lead single for the band’s upcoming third studio album, Wilder Mind, to be released next month on May 4, 2015. East Coast Canada’s indie rock pride Joel Plaskett has released his fourth solo album. Plaskett’s an artist we’ve had the pleasure of seeing perform live on several occasions while back home in Halifax and PEI. The title of the album comes from Plaskett’s old neighbour Roy, who called the metal guardrail at the corner of Park Avenue and King Street in Darmouth NS, the “Park Avenue sobriety test” because of how many impaired drivers got caught running into it.The first song off the album we’ve got for you is my personal favorite and the latest single called Credits Roll. You can actually get a free download of Credits Roll on joelplaskett.com if you fill out his fan questionnaire.   The second song we wanna feature is the first song that Joel released for the album, and the title track of the album. You can just tell the song is perfect for singing along to at a live concert and Plaskett’s actually been performing it for years. In a well-shot video by Eli Leavitt you can see him performing The Park Avenue Sobriety Test live in Hamilton ON in 2013.  And as bonus, just a month ago Plaskett released On a Dime, my 3rd favorite track off the album. J.P. Cormier contributes some East Coast fiddle to it’s pub-folk-rock sound.  Others tracks off the album worth checking out is Alright OK (in particular will make longtime fans feel at home), Broken Heart Songs (with a little bit of a country sound while poking fun at country), and Song for Jersey (which you can watch a live performance of Song for Jersey posted by Exclaim! Tim Chaisson just released the official video for Crushed from the album Lost In Light which was released on February 17, 2015. We premiered the single Crushed in October last year. You can read more in our writeup for the new album Lost in Light.

It’s not often we get to post about artists we personally know. Today we have the first single off Tim Chaisson‘s new album Lost In Light. Tim is from PEI (the province in Canada Pat and I are from). The album launched October 24 in Australia and is due for release here in North America in early 2015. We’ve been to see Tim perform several times back home in both PEI and Halifax. Other tracks on the album we’re looking forward to are Bad On Me, and Cajun Moon (both of which I got to sneak peak of at a concert back home). You can follow Tim on Facebook and Twitter.

Nickelback is following up their comeback single for their new album with a music video to match. The video plays on the song’s theme of rebellion with visuals combining scenes of protests, soldiers, and a classroom full of children being fed messages of conformity, that they ultimately decide to reject in favor of the need for change.

In possibly their last release before their new album titled “Conversationalist” launches next week on September 9th, In-Flight Safety has posted another track; Caution Horses. We had posted about their other single Animals in early August. You can pre-order their new album on iTunes.

Now this is pretty damn cool! The Gorillaz have realeased a 15 minute featurette called Journey To Plastic Beach. This is like a short movie and the animation is phenomenal!

The short animation, from the award winning Jamie Hewlett, sees Gorillaz mastermind Murdoch tell the story behind the album 'Plastic Beach'. The film combines previous Gorillaz videos with new and unseen footage, and finally it all makes sense. The Gorillaz characters even come face to face with their real life counterparts!
