I had planned on building a mac app which notified you when there was a new post by one of your subscriptions in your must-read section on feedly; a notification would pop up and if you clicked it it would open the page and mark it as read in feedly. Then I came across this app by Oleg Shevchenko (olsh on github), he basically built the same thing, but built it on chrome, so it's cross-platform, and you can pick whichever folders you want it to monitor for new articles. I have been loving using this chrome extension for monitoring my must-reads on feedly.

Answer by Mitchell McKenna for Replacement for Twitter RSS API? http://mitchmckenna.com/post/13063/answer-by-mitchell-mckenna-for-replacement-for-twitter-rss-api

Here's 2 options:

  1. Use Twitter RSS - Google Apps Script from github to convert Twitter API 1.1 to RSS. Using this option you can get search results, users' timelines, users’ favorites or even Twitter Lists.
  2. Use twitter-rss.com to get a user's timeline (might include ads in the timeline).

Lightread - Reeder-like RSS reader for Linux http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12690/lightread-reeder-like-rss-reader-for-linux

Winner of the Ubuntu App Showdown 2012. Basically a clone of the popular mac app Reeder. Includes off-line support, keyboard navigation, notification bubbles, and HUD support. Currently powered off Google Reader but I'm sure it'll switch over to something like Feedly once Google Reader shuts down.
