It takes a whole Mediterranean Sea every two years to dye the clothes we wear -- that's 25 liters of water for a single t-shirt. Adidas DryDye shirts with fabrics from the Yeh Group are dyed using ZERO water.

Charity: Water - Creating Sustainable Well Projects http://mitchmckenna.com/post/11143/mechanics-on-a-mission-charity-waters-work-in-rural-india

What few charities focus on sadly is sustainability in their charity projects. Sure it's great to donate food and supplies, but what about next week for these people? next month?

Charity: water is making it a priority to keep clean water flowing over time. Up to 30% of the cost of a charity: water project goes into training and educating the community about how to take care of the well after their gone.

We're working with our partners to tackle the issue of sustainability, educate communities, and fund mechanics programs to repair broken water projects.

Dalhousie's newest academic building is the greenest place on campus. The building's designers are hoping to receive a gold LEED rating. The building features a long list of green attributes including: bike racks in the basement; shower room and lockers for use of cyclists; a cistern to collect nonpotable water; 85 heat pumps to recirculate heat; high-efficiency lighting with sensors; FSC-certified maple paneling; "OptiNet" air quality sensors measure humidity and carbon dioxide; low-flo bathrooms; rainwater collected from roof and gutters to flush toilets; "Bubbledeck" construction method for fewer materials; "green" roof; and "Solarwall" 200 metres square, to preheat ventilation air.
