This morning, as expected after the phone announcement, Canonical have unveiled a new ‘tablet’ version of Ubuntu. It shares some of the Ubuntu Phone OS elements, but it also comes with new features such as a "Side Stage" which lets you use phone and tablet apps in the same time. The KAIST Institute of Information Technology Convergence has posted this video demonstrating their patented eBook interface prototype.

The prototype is implemented on an Apple iPad but reportedly uses private Apple APIs, so it likely wouldn't be approved for the App Store, but the video shows a number of very cool and intuitive ways to navigate eBooks besides the simple "page flip" motion found on Apple's iBooks app.

HP announces three new Palm-centric products: one small, one medium, and one large. The HP Veer is a miniature touch smartphone, the Pre 3 updates the existing Palm Pre line of smartphones, and the HP TouchPad is a full-fledged 9.7-inch tablet.

Today at the Android-themed Google event, Google proudly gave an in-depth demonstration of the latest version of the Android operating system. Android 3.0, or better known as Honeycomb, is the first version of Android that has been optimized for tablets, and from what we’ve seen it looks extremely promising. Some of the new features include an improved notification system, the ability to run all Android apps, new developer features, optimized graphical performance, new apps demonstrated, and native video chat support.

The Motorola XOOM will join the Galaxy Tab in the land of popular Android Tablets, but Motorola has a bit of an advantage on the XOOM as it's the first to run Android 3.0 honeycomb which is optimized for the tablet experience, one of my favorite being tabbed browsing.

The device sports a Nvidia Tegra 2, 1GHz dual core processor, a 10.1-inch screen (at 1280x800 and a 16:10 aspect ratio), rear 5MP camera, front 2MP camera and 4G connectivity.

As we have seen with all of the Galaxy S series phones, Samsung has released its own commercial for the new Galaxy Tab. The 30-second spot showcases the way the Tab can fit into your busy lifestyle, and should be a big hit with it's upbeat feel and cheery atmosphere. Perhaps the most anticipated tablet expected to hit the market in the coming year. Today Samsung released a short teaser video for the Galaxy Tab that confirms many features including video calling, HD movie playback, an e-reader, Flash support, Swype, and GPS Navigation.

The device will also be running Android 2.2. This may be the only look we get before its official reveal on Sept 2nd at IFA in Berlin.

HP released a new video showing off its upcoming "iPad killer"--the Slate tablet PC. The video is reminiscent of Verizon's "Droid Does" campaign highlighting all of the capabilities of the Android-based Droid that the Apple iPhone can't deliver. In a mere 30 seconds HP manages to demonstrate that its tablet is--in a nutshell--everything Apple's iPad isn't.
