Ubuntu Phone Walkthrough http://mitchmckenna.com/post/15158/ubuntu-phone-walkthrough-video

I kind of like how they kept the Ubuntu feel, and how someone has finally done a different app launcher than the home-screen grid of icons.

Ubuntu’s scopes give you related content on one screen, instead of hiding it behind different apps. So everything you look for in life is now right at your fingertips.

Lightread - Reeder-like RSS reader for Linux http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12690/lightread-reeder-like-rss-reader-for-linux

Winner of the Ubuntu App Showdown 2012. Basically a clone of the popular mac app Reeder. Includes off-line support, keyboard navigation, notification bubbles, and HUD support. Currently powered off Google Reader but I'm sure it'll switch over to something like Feedly once Google Reader shuts down.

My First 5 Minutes On A Server; Or, Essential Security for Linux Servers http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12587/my-first-5-minutes-on-a-server-or-essential-security-for-linux-servers

A quick security checklist for setting up a new server by Bryan Kennedy.

My security philosophy is simple: adopt principles that will protect you from the most frequent attack vectors, while keeping administration efficient enough that you won’t develop “security cruft”.

Ubuntu for Tablets http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12520/ubuntu-for-tablets-trailer

This morning, as expected after the phone announcement, Canonical have unveiled a new ‘tablet’ version of Ubuntu. It shares some of the Ubuntu Phone OS elements, but it also comes with new features such as a "Side Stage" which lets you use phone and tablet apps in the same time. If the trailer spiked your interest check out the 6 minute video with Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth as he goes over the features.

Ubuntu for Phones http://mitchmckenna.com/post/12227/ubuntu-for-phones-industry-proposition

Watch Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth explain Ubuntu's new mobile strategy. Jump to 5:20 for the good stuff. I really like the focus on utilizing screen real estate, and all the gesture actions. It'll really be interesting if this manages to take off. Engadget's got a great hands-on video with Shuttleworth as well.

Mark Shuttleworth on Using Juju to Crowdsource SysOps http://mitchmckenna.com/post/11625/oscon-2012-mark-r-shuttleworth-quotmaking-magic-from-cloud-to-clientquot

Mark Shuttleworth gave a talk at OSCON 2012 titled "Making Magic From Cloud To Client" where he explained one of Canonical's new projects Juju and how it can be used to help crowdsource the difficult task of configuring and deploying software across multiple local, virtual and server environments.

Through the use of charms, juju provides you with shareable, re-usable, and repeatable expressions of DevOps best practices. You can use them unmodified, or easily change and connect them to fit your needs. Deploying a charm is similar to installing a package on Ubuntu: ask for it and it’s there, remove it and it’s completely gone.

It's been a while since we heard much about the gorgeous linux distro elementary OS, but they've been chugging along making progress towards an official release. Webupd8 put together a great video showing off a quick preview of Geary (email client), Pantheon Files (file manager), Maya (calendar app), Plank (dock), Noise (music player) and many more of it's custom built apps. When will be released? When it's Ready.

Ubuntu HUD http://mitchmckenna.com/post/10725/introducing-the-hud-to-ubuntu

An intelligent search-based approach to finding and accessing menu items you need. HUD is capable of remembering what items you use most often and prioritizing them in the results. It's a lot like app launchers such as GNOME Do or my recent favorite Synapse, but is more context aware as all the commands in the current application's menus are included.

The video below shows HUD in action, and demos many of its unique features. Check out Mark Shuttleworth's blog post for more details.
